Member of the flavin-containing monooxygenase (FMO) family of NADPH-dependent monooxygenases, which catalyze the oxygenation of nucleophilic heteroatom-containing compounds such as xenobiotics and drugs. In humans, FMO6 is unlikely to encode a functional monooxygenase due to defective transcript processing and the presence of truncating variants. No enzymatic activity has been demonstrated for the human protein. . This is the function of FMO6P (flavin containing dimethylaniline monoxygenase 6, pseudogene, ENSG00000117507).
