UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) that catalyzes phase II biotransformation reactions in which lipophilic substrates are conjugated with glucuronic acid to increase the metabolite's water solubility, thereby facilitating excretion into either the urine or bile. Exhibits narrow substrate specificity and very low catalytic activity compared to other UGT2B subfamily members (PubMed:8333863, PubMed:9169006, PubMed:9675083). Preferentially glucuronidates catechol estrogens. Also conjugates estriol and 3alpha-hydroxysteroids with activities 30-90 fold lower than UGT2B7. Shows no activity toward testosterone, hyodeoxycholic acid or most drugs.
